What You'll Learn

Using the 12-button traditional remote
The 12-button traditional remote is compatible with all Advanced DualAir™ and Traditional Sleep Number® Firmness Control systems and FlexFit™ 1, 2, and 3 adjustable bases sold between February 2014 and January 2020. The remote works with your mattress and adjustable base.
Firstly, you need to connect the remote with your mattress. To do this, check that your bed is plugged in and that the connections to the Firmness Control system (the pump that controls the bed) are secure. If you have a triangular, silver, and black remote that says "Advanced Series" on the bottom, first unplug and plug in the bed, and then install two AA batteries. Push any button to connect the remote.
To use your remote to find your Sleep Number, lie down on your side of the bed in your usual sleep position and press the Right/Left or Side button to indicate your side. Next, press the "Menu" button to retrieve the main menu and select "Settings." Once in Settings, choose "Find Your Sleep Number," and the remote will guide you through the process of finding your ideal setting.
In addition to a Sleep Number mattress, you may have purchased a FlexFit adjustable base, which allows you to adjust the bed's height. From your remote, press the "Head/Feet" button to choose which part of the bed you'd like to adjust, and then use the up and down arrows to raise or lower the mattress to your desired position. You can save a position as a favourite by pressing the "Star" button or holding down the button at the top of the remote.

How to pair your remote
Firstly, ensure that your remote is compatible with your Sleep Number bed. The pairing process differs depending on the model of your bed and the year it was purchased. For example, pairing instructions for the Sleep Number c1, iLE, and pSE smart beds differ from other models.
If you have a Sleep Number bed with a FlexFit™ adjustable smart base, follow these steps:
- Ensure your remote has new AA batteries.
- Remove all non-bedding items from the bed.
- Make sure the bed is plugged in and receiving power.
- Within the remote, navigate to the Settings menu.
- Select "Pair Bed".
- On the side of the adjustable base, press and hold the favorite button for 5 seconds until it starts to flash blue, then release.
- Follow any additional prompts on the remote.
- If pairing is successful, the Bluetooth icon in the top left corner of the remote screen will go from blinking to solid.
If you are pairing a traditional Sleep Number remote purchased before 2017, follow these steps:
- Insert fresh AA batteries into the remote.
- Reset your remote to factory settings by selecting Home > System > Settings > Reset Preferences > Factory Reset.
- Select "Yes" when asked if you want to reset to factory settings.
- Select "No" when asked if this is a second or replacement remote.
- Unplug and plug in your Firmness Control™ system when prompted.
- If you have a FlexFit control system, unplug and plug it back in. Skip this step if you do not have an adjustable base.
If you are pairing a Sleep Number remote with a bed purchased between 2013-2016, follow these additional steps:
- Remove the batteries from the remote.
- Unplug and plug in your Firmness Control system.
- Within 60 seconds, insert 2 AA batteries into the remote.
- Pick up the remote or press a button to wake it up.
- Follow the instructions on the remote to finish pairing.
If you encounter any issues during the pairing process, try removing the batteries from your remote for 10 seconds, reinserting them, and attempting to pair again. If you see a blue screen with a "Sleep Server" error, press "Enter" to bypass the error.
Note: If you are pairing multiple remotes, complete the pairing process for one remote before starting with the next.

Identify Your Remote Type
Firstly, identify which type of remote you have. Sleep Number beds have used different remotes over the years. If your bed was purchased between 2013 and 2016, you likely have the traditional 12-button remote. For beds bought between 2016 and 2023 (sometimes even 2024), you likely have the 360 remote. If you have a newer Sleep Number smart bed (2022 or newer), you likely have the smart remote.
Pair Your Remote
Pairing your remote with your bed can be a bit involved. The process will differ depending on the type of remote and bed you have. For the 360 remote, press and hold the side button to initiate the sync process. Follow the prompts, and remember to skip the dual-temp option.
Adjust Your Bed
Once your remote is paired, you can adjust your bed's settings. Use the remote to control the firmness of your mattress and, if applicable, the angle of your adjustable base. The remote should provide you with on-screen prompts to guide you through the process.
Seek Additional Support
If you need further assistance, refer to the instructions that came with your remote and bed. Additionally, you can reach out to Sleep Number support or consult online resources for more detailed troubleshooting steps.
Remember to consider the compatibility of your remote and bed, as not all remotes will work with every Sleep Number bed model.
