Aqua's outfit was altered during the development of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Tetsuya Nomura, who designed the character from scratch, considered her exposed back to be too revealing. The final outfit is neither too conservative nor too revealing. Nomura also wanted to retain Aqua's feminine qualities alongside her strength. Aqua's armour in Birth by Sleep is mostly coloured in shades of silver, black, purple and blue, with dull white lines decorating the armour.
