What You'll Learn

Birth by Sleep is a Kingdom Hearts game
Birth by Sleep is the sixth game in the Kingdom Hearts series. It was originally created for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) and is a prequel to the first game, taking place ten years before. The game's name is shared with the secret video at the end of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, "Birth by Sleep", which depicts a scene from the game.
The story focuses primarily on Terra, Aqua and Ventus, three young Keybearers from before Sora's generation, although the game also gives focus to the origins of Sora and Xehanort, delving deep into the mysteries of Xehanort's bleak past and forgotten memories as well as how Sora and Riku came to wield the Keyblade. Each story is unique, and as you play each story, you only progress further into the game's biggest mysteries.
The game also features various new worlds specially created for the series by Square Enix, such as the Land of Departure and Radiant Garden. Disney Town, which is the town surrounding the castle grounds of Disney Castle, serves as the game's minigame world.
Birth by Sleep is an action role-playing game with hack and slash elements that introduces a gameplay aspect to the series called the Command System. This system allows players to customise a Command Deck with techniques and abilities that they can perform at will, called Deck Commands.

It was developed by Square Enix
Birth by Sleep is an action role-playing game with hack and slash elements. It is the sixth game in the Kingdom Hearts series and was developed by Square Enix's fifth Product Development Division, based in Osaka. The game was originally created for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) and is a prequel to the first game in the series, set ten years before the events of Kingdom Hearts 1. The story focuses on Terra, Aqua and Ventus, three young Keybearers from before Sora's generation, although the game also gives focus to the origins of Sora and Xehanort, delving into the mysteries of Xehanort's past and forgotten memories, as well as how Sora and Riku came to wield the Keyblade.
The game introduces a new gameplay aspect to the series called the Command System. This system allows players to customise a Command Deck with techniques and abilities that they can perform at will, called Deck Commands. Performing ordinary attacks and Commands fills a gauge displayed above the Command Deck. When certain requirements are fulfilled and the gauge is full, the player's basic attack is changed to the "Surge" Command, which racks up powerful combos depending on the active Command Style. Filling the gauge a second time replaces the "Surge" Command with the more powerful "Storm" Command.
The game's name is shared with the secret video at the end of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, "Birth by Sleep", which depicts a stylised version of a scene from the game. Birth by Sleep was developed by the same team that created Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories and uses the same graphical engine as Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. The Osaka-based team had requested to be involved in a spin-off if one were to be made during the development of Kingdom Hearts II.

It has a Command System
Birth by Sleep has a Command System, which is a battle system that appears in the game. There are 15 command styles, some of which are shared between all three characters, and some of which are exclusive to one character. The Command Styles grant increased strength and new combos.
The Command Deck is organised according to the strength and availability of their "cards". Physical abilities are ranked from easiest to obtain to hardest. Magic works in a similar way, with low-level magic named with a single, self-explanatory word (e.g., Blizzard), mid-tier spells ending in -ra (e.g., Blizzara), and higher-level elemental magic ending in -ga (e.g., Blizzaga).
Deck Commands are equippable skills that can be used in the field. There are two main types: Battle Commands, which appear in and can be used from the Command Menu, and Action Commands. Deck Commands can be equipped from the main menu, under "Deck Commands". Shotlocks can also be set in this menu. Deck Commands gain experience in the form of Command Points, or CP, and will level up, becoming more powerful or effective. CP can be gained in battle by defeating enemies, or on the Command Board by using commands to purchase spaces.
Action Commands can be used freely in the field, and they consist of Movement, Defense, and Reprisal commands. Movement commands grant the player greater mobility in the field, Defense commands allow the player to block enemy attacks, and Reprisal commands allow the player to counter enemy attacks and movements, often with a return attack.
